PERIODONTIC TREATMENT

PERIODONTIC TREATMENT

Periodontology or Periodontics is the speciality of dentistry that studies supporting structures of teeth, diseases, and conditions that affect them. The supporting tissues are known as the periodontium, which includes the gingiva (gums), alveolar bone, cementum, and the periodontal ligament.

Teeth Cleaning

The objective of teeth cleaning (Scaling and polishing) is to remove not just cosmetic teeth stains, but tartar (plaque) that can potentially cause shaky teeth and tooth loss.

Plaque/Calculus can cause gums to become red, swollen and bleed easily. This eventually leads to shaky teeth and teeth loss. Dental care can prevent gums from reaching this stage.

Periodontal Scaling is also known as ‘Teeth Cleaning’ and it is quite safe. The process of scaling and Polishing, is to remove or eliminate the causative (Calculus) agents which cause inflammation.

It is advised to perform it as a routine procedure at least once a year. Periodontal scaling is quite beneficial for treating mild gingivitis when it is in the early stages.

Some times Deep Scaling is adviced which is nothing but eliminating the calculus deposits from under the gums.

Gum Surgery

Gum Surgery also called as Periodontal Flap Surgery is the removal of bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar) from around the teeth and below the gum-line.

Types of Gum Surgery

  1. Gingival Flap Surgery
  2. Gingivectomy
  3. Gingivoplasty

Laser Flap Surgery

Laser assisted gum flap surgery for gum pain, which occurs by gum infection. This is the first and only periodontal protocol in India to assist the gum infected patients with painless. The laser assisted flap surgery help the patients with moderate to severe gum disease a vastly less painful and less invasive treatment alternative to conventional flap surgery.

Tooth Gum pain is the reason of dental gum infection inside mouth. The infection can lead to problems with Itching, swollen gums, gum bleeding, and tenderness. Theses signs are the starting stage of gum disease that is gingivitis. The second stage of gum disease is periodontitis. Signs of periodontitis includes food store between teeth, teeth lose, teeth Sensitivity, sudden appearance of spaces between teeth.

Gum Treatments mainly include both surgical and non-surgical options. Non-surgical options include scaling and root planning, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory, bite correction, splitting. Surgical options include gingivectomy and flap surgery.

Laser gum flap surgery is the best gum infection treatment procedure. Because of it remove huge amount of plaque which leads to teeth pain. During this procedure an incision is maid by a flap is lifted. The gums are gently separated from the tooth, creating an access to the infected pocket and root surface. Deep deposit of plaque and tartar can remove by this procedure with less pain.

During the time of gum flap surgery grafting is also possible. Bone grafting is helpful to increase the vertical height of the bone which helpful in good foundation for the tooth.

Gingival Depigmentation

Melanin is a natural substance that accounts for skin and hair pigmentation in people with dark complexions. Melanin absorbs harmful UV rays and is the body’s way to protect the deeper layers of the skin. Just like your skin can increase melanin deposition as a result of sunlight exposure, gum pigmentation can also increase with chronic exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, or smokeless tobacco ‘dipping’. Pigmentation due to smoking is called smoker’s melanosis, and generally more noticeable in fair skin individuals with naturally pink gums. Smoker’s melanosis appears as a brown band of pigmentation below the border of the gum** It is a benign condition that slowly reverses itself once the individual stops smoking, not to be confused with gingival melanoma, which is rare but cancerous.

Here are some benefits of having Periodontal Surgery, if it is determined to be needed.

  • Prevents further damage to the tissue and possible loss of teeth from the bacteria weakening the gums.
