Tooth Replacement
Your Smile Dental Care team can offer a wide variety of solutions to Rebuild, Restore or Replace your smile.
Dentures & Partial denture
Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. Whether you have lost all of your natural teeth, or just a few, replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Speaking and chewing food properly are often taken for granted, yet are compromised with tooth loss. Dentures can make a vast improvement. Fixed prosthetic devices are referred to as crowns and bridges. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which can be taken out and cleaned daily, crowns and bridges are permanently attached to existing teeth or implants, and daily care is similar to that of natural teeth.
Crowns
A crown is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. Porcelain veneers or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Other materials include gold, metal alloys, and acrylic.
A fixed (permanent) bridge replaces one or more teeth by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the space and attaching an artificial tooth or teeth to them. This “bridge” is then cemented into place. The force of the bite on the new tooth is absorbed by the two or more supporting teeth.
Porcelain bonded to a metal shell (PFM) is often used for both crown and bridges as it is both strong and attractive.
Each patient’s mouth is unique. At Your Smile Dental Care we carefully consider all of the treatment options to determine together what will give you the smile you deserve.
A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is sometimes connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
Zirconia Crown
A zirconia crown is a popular type of all-ceramic crown which is worn to improve the appearance of a tooth which has become stained or disfigured over the years. They are durable, easy to wear and long lasting.
Bridges
A bridge may be recommended if you’re missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges. Your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost. Porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the color of your natural teeth.
